I think men are an endangered species. Not Marlboro Men or Mountain Men or Hollywood’s version of the emasculated, weak, gender-confused man. I mean men that the Bible asserts as anointed by God. Men called Mighty Men. What in the world is a Mighty Man? And when Paul challenged the men to Corinth to “act like men,” (I Cor 16:13) what did he mean?
This past weekend at ACF, I taught on what it means to be a man. I basically just told several stories of men who understand what acting like a real man looks like. I think you’d be surprised at what it means. These are men who keep their word, are faithful and loyal even when it hurts, who don’t indulge their appetites, and who don’t exercise their rights and perceived entitlements, even though no one would fault them if they did. These are men who stand out in our culture because they’re so different from the norm, so far above what our culture promotes as true manhood.
