REVIEWS

From Amy Miller (Indiana)–If you find that you pray for everyone but yourself, you need to read this book. This is the kind of book that can totally change your prayer life. As Will Davis says in Faith Set Free, “the person in your life with the greatest capacity to help or hinder God’s work in you is you. You need to be praying for yourself. . .” Davis provides 100 pinpoint prayers for yourself based on Scripture. There are also questions that can be used for a small group study. This is a book I will read again and refer to as I strengthen my prayer life.

From Virginia Garrett (Scottsbluff, Nebraska)–I just finished reading “Faith Set Free” by Will Davis Jr. I’ve alluded to the book here and here. Don’t let the title fool you, it is a book on prayer. Will Davis Jr. has also written Pray Big, Pray Big for Your Marriage, Pray Big for Your Child.

I love to talk but praying is very difficult for me. I’m ashamed and sad to admit that because it is so difficult, I often don’t pray. I’ll pray before meals, and at bedtime. But I don’t seek out times to just pray. I’ve been known to step into my garage and scream, “HELP ME NOW!!!!”A month ago I started praying through The Lord’s Prayer, adding my own words and thoughts to it. That last a week or two and then it became a drudgery. I’m sure God is thrilled when I talk to Him just because I have to, or just so I can check it off my mental to-do list.

But Faith Set Free changed all of that. I knew before my prayers didn’t have to be long and flowery, or even necessarily flowing, but when I would listen to people prattle on to God, I felt so insecure because so often when I approach His throne I am struck with my own horrible sinfulness and His Own Great Holiness. And I am struck dumb. All thoughts leave my mind, I can’t even think where to begin.

I know we’re promised access with confidence to His throne where we find grace and mercy and help. This book will revolutionize your prayer life. Even if you’re not like me and have a great prayer life. Mr. Davis takes you through The Lord’s Prayer in new, pinpoint way. “Lord, make Your name holy in my life today. Lord, bring Your kingdom to my heart today.”

You really owe it to yourself to get this book. Either get it from your local Christian bookstore or click the link above. You will not be sorry!!

From Stacy in Las Vegas, Nevada–I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Pastor Will Davis Jr. and his publisher for sending me a copy of “Faith Set Free” to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.

This book was not what I was expecting – literally. I signed up to review “Pray Big: The Power of Pinpoint Prayers”. What showed up in my mailbox was something completely different. Some people would be disappointed that what they planned for didn’t come to pass. And I will admit that I had to do a bit of perusing before I was completely on board with the unexpected title. But I don’t believe that I would’ve received this book if God hadn’t intended it to be so. Rather than a disappointment, “Faith Set Free” has been a surprise party! And I am the guest of honor. Will Davis Jr., Senior Pastor of Austin Christian Fellowship Church, has penned a valuable prayer resource that should be on every Christian’s bookshelf. Not gathering dust, but being highlighted and referenced and read in conjunction with the Bible.

This wonderful book on prayer takes the concept of pinpoint prayers (what I wanted to study when I requested “Pray Big”) and focuses it on how to pray for yourself. This is something I definitely needed. Too many times, I have fallen for the lie that praying for myself is selfish. But in actuality, praying for yourself is necessary – like exercise and training for a soldier. And that is what we Christians are: soldiers in a very real spiritual war that often bleeds into our daily lives. Thanks for the reminder, Pastor Davis. There’s even a list of pinpoint prayers in the back of the book which can be used verbatim in your prayer time. These prayers are built from scripture, so they are inherently in accordance with God’s will. You can also use the technique to pray other scriptures. “Faith Set Free” will encourage you to pray for yourself with your Bible open. It is an encouraging and empowering read. And with a bit of rewording, you can use these same verses to pray for others.
